Platform Mechanics

Knowing the technical side of doing what we do as
speakers. Knowing and mastering all of the “mechanical” skills of
performing as a speaker.
Include:
-
Staging, lighting, choreography (movement) and sound
systems which apply to each type of speaking. What they are, how they work,
and how to best use them for the desired effect. Performing on video, audio,
online or via satellite versus face-to-face.
-
Strategies for dealing with the most common speaking
problems, ie: distractions, emergencies, inoperable equipment, poor
lighting, temperature extremes, time constraints, etc.
-
Group dynamics and crowd control techniques. Differences in
delivery style required to; reach small versus large groups, generate or
stop group involvement, increase or decrease drama, etc. (This aspect
overlaps somewhat with the “presenting and performing” competency.)
